Devils Continue Push Towards Postseason With Sixth Straight Win

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team got strong relief efforts from Alex Bouchard, Beau Dana, and Joey Sangiuolo along with a three-run seventh to rally back for a 5-4 Centennial Conference win over the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror on Friday afternoon at MacPhail Field.

Pitching Decision

W - Alex Bouchard (4-0) | L - Conor Henderson (1-3) | S - Beau Dana (5)

Inside the Game

The two starting pitchers Ryan Kelly for McDaniel and the Red Devils Thomas Marshman had an easy time of it in the first setting down the sides in order. McDaniel found the scoreboard in the top of the second as two singles with two gone led to a two-run knock for Connor Uhrig. He was followed by Billy Wheatley who made it 3-0 with a triple that hugged the right-field line. After a free-pass to Shane Daly, Tyler Yohn bounced into a fielder's choice to end the rally. Dickinson answered back with two of their own in the bottom-half as singles from Luke Jackson and Kaden Sigmon resulted in a two-run two-out hit from Pat Harrington to trim the gap to 3-2. The next batter was Ryan Thompson who tried to tie the game but hit into a fielder's choice for the last out.

Both sides put together a threat in the fourth as T.J. McGuire was hit by Marshman and Uhrig singled to signal the end of the day for the Devils starter as Sangiuolo came into the contest. He got Wheatley to pop-up on a bunt and Daly to hit into a double-play to end the frame. An error and a single by Sigmon set the stage for DC to draw level or take the lead, but Cole Benner flew out and Harrington tapped one back to Kelly to wrap up the fourth.

Sangiuolo was dominant on the hill for the Red and White as he did not allow a hit in his three innings of work. However, the Green Terror pitching was just as strong allowing just one walk over innings five and six.

Bouchard took over to begin the seventh and made quick work of the McDaniel hitters by striking out the side in order. Henderson replaced Kelly in the home-half of the frame and got a quick K, before allowing a walk to Harrington and an RBI knock for Thompson to knot the score. A deep fly out from Lukas Atsalis gave Henderson a path to get out of the inning, however, consecutive walks to Tom Gannaway and Cole Hare loaded the bases for Jackson. He ripped a groundball to the second baseman that was misplayed and ended up in shallow right-field allowing two men to race home giving Dickinson a 5-3. Matt Torres concluded the inning with a flyout to center.

A pair of one-out walks would bite Bouchard during the eighth as Jake Smith whacked a single to right scoring one and had a chance to put men on the corners, but a strong throw by Atsalis in right retired the runner heading to third for a huge second out. Bouchard then stalled the rally as he got Jack Bayne to watch strike three for the final out.

The Devils then handed the ball over to their closer Dana who issued a walk during the frame, but got two groundouts and a strikeout to end the game.
