Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Dickinson men's lacrosse junior Skyler Schluter tallied just one assist on the day, but it was enough to set the Dickinson College single-season record with his 36th of the campaign as the eighth-ranked Devils completed an undefeated regular season with an 18-10 win over the host Washington College on Saturday afternoon at Kirby Field. The previous mark was 35 set in 2013 by Matt Cherry.
It was the host the struck first as Luke Brennan beat Chris Brandau just 1:10 in, but he was immediately answered by Tucker Booth who buried the Owen Porter feed beyond Ryan Leahy. However, the home scored off the ensuing faceoff to reclaim a 2-1 lead. It then became all about Leahy who made four saves over the next seven minutes as he turned away Sascha Gannon, Ethan Gess, and Matt Thurston. The Devils finally solved the wall of Leahy with an unassisted marker from James Isaacson. Each team scored once more with Trevor Ivatts tallying for WC and Will Farrell cashing in the record-breaking assist to make it 3-3 after one.
The second began with the two sides trading goals with Ewan Temple and Porter scoring for the respective teams. Two consecutive saves by Brandau led to the defenseman Seamus McCloskey picking up a loose ball and going coast-to-coast for the finish. However, once again the Shoremen had an answer through Mac Hale, but Isaacson responded less than a minute later followed by Sam Campbell setting up Thurston to make it 7-5. Campbell and Farrell would add two more for the Red and White to stretch the advantage to 9-5 at the break.
Dickinson recorded four of the opening five shots of the third with Leahy denying Farrell, before conceding the rebound goal to Thurston allowing the Devils to double-up the host at 10-5. WC took advantage of a DC turnover after a successful clear as Temple collected the rock and fired a shot past Brandau. The Red and White dominated the rest of the period firing 16 of the final 18 shots over the ten minutes with Campbell, Porter, and Schluter all tickling the twine to make it 13-6 Devils through 45-minutes.
Washington found their footing a little bit more early in the fourth as Cory Morgan and Temple sandwiched a marker by Thurston to cut the deficit down to 14-8 with 10:38 to play. Ben Tomick thought he scored for the Devils, but rang the pipe however he picked up the loose ball and set-up Thurston for a goal. Leahy continued to be on his game stopping attempts by George Moschos and Thurston which led to Ivatts sticking the rock behind Brandau. Dickinson did not take too kindly to that as Campbell and Gannon added to the DC lead at 17-9 with five minutes left. Both teams scored once more with Ben Dickinson tallying for WC, followed by Griffin Moore for the Devils setting the 18-10 final.
