CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team was limited to just one shot and was held without a penalty corner on the afternoon as the visiting and sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins University posted 34 shots en route to a 5-0 win on Wednesday afternoon in a rematch of last season's Centennial Conference title game.
Johns Hopkins had their first of 22 corners on the day with 3:22 gone as Siena Urbanski inserted the ball to Abby Birk for a shot, but it went wide of
Saige Stevens in goal. The found the net a few minutes later as
Jackie Smith swept a shot from Tessa Erickson off the line. However, it resulted in a penalty stroke for the visitors which Urbanski converted. Stevens would watch the play continue right in front of her cage as the Jays recorded five more shots forcing her into one save to hold the score at 1-0.
In the second Dickinson had their first look at goal at the 3:41 mark when
Becca Woods was turned aside by Jays keeper Phoebe Williams. The visitors had the remaining six shots of the period with Stevens making two stops, while two balls got behind her for a 3-0 lead at the half.
Stevens was extremely busy in the third quarter as the Jays were flying totaling 13 shots in the period with the Devils goalie recording nine stops and not allowing a goal.Â
Hopkins would tally their final two goals inside the opening five minutes of the fourth with Stevens denying Sophie Gomez, but the rebound kicked back out to Urbanski for the finish. Then, it was Urbanski once again as she cashed in a corner by Birk.
Olivia Renault took over between the pipes for DC over the final seven minutes and was not called upon to make a save.
