CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team had a lot of the ball and pressure on Wednesday night in a huge Centennial Conference match against the visiting fifth-ranked Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall College. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the visitors found the net with the first shot of the match and never looked back as they picked up a 2-0 win at Miller Memorial Field.
The visitors wasted no time in finding the back of the net as Oscar Horwitz dribbled through the DC defense and found Jack Baer who got keeper
Nick Potter to commit to a side and slide a shot home for the lead with 1:59 gone. Dickinson recorded the next two chances as
Ethan Jarden was denied by Nolan Booth with at the 11:25 mark, while
Connor Uitterdijk miss the target eight minutes later. Neither side was able to mount much more pressure in the attacking third until the 36th-minute when both
Saul Iwowo and
Jordan Grivekov were not able to force Booth to make a save. A minute after that Horwitz attempted to make it 2-0, but Potter was there to shut the door. Grivekov had one more look at the equalizer prior to the break, unfortunately, it was blocked down by the Diplomat defense to sent the match to the break.
The Devils had the guests on the backfoot early in the second period as consecutive corner kicks led to Iwowo asking questions of Booth and
Cole Jennings sailing a shot wide left within the opening seven minutes. F&M then found their footing tallying the next four attempts tasking Potter with making just one stop as he beat away an offering from Jordan Samuels at the 63:13 mark. The sides shared the ensuing four shots with neither Koa Kaliebe and Horwitz able to put the ball in the net for the visitors, while
Tyson Burling and Jarden caused Booth to make one more save. Unfortunately, for Dickinson the Diplomats would extend the margin to 2-0 during the 83rd minute as Kaliebe played in a free kick that was deflected by Owen Sobel over the head of Potter and into the net. Jennings had one final chance to bring the Red and White on the scoreboard, but he missed over the head of Booth to set the final.
