Devils Bats Erupt in Sweep of Trailblazers and Lions

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The couple of days off in the beautiful Florida weather proved to pay dividends for the Dickinson baseball team as they clubbed 23 hits and scored 23 runs on Thursday afternoon en route to one win each over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Emerson College.

Game One - DEVILS 12, Trailblazers 2 (F/7)
Pitching Decision

W - Grayson Walker (2-0) | L - Rob Correia (2-1)

Inside the Game
After a scoreless first inning-and-a-half the DC bats got cooking in the last of the second as a double from Christian Kim and walk to Kaden Sigmon, followed by a groundout by Matt Torres put two in scoring position for Ryan Thompson. However, before he could complete his at-bat a wild pitch allowed Kim to score and moved Sigmon up 90-feet. Walks to Thompson and Nathan Bowman filled the bags for Dylan Posencheg who reached on an error by the first baseman letting two runs come home. Kenny Tagliareni then made it 5-0 through two with a two-run single. The Red and White added on in the third when an error let Sigmon reach and a free pass to Torres set the stage for a two-run two-bagger by Thompson stretching it to 7-0. He then came home a hitter later when Chase Weller provided a run-scoring single to right. The Devils pushed the lead out another run during the fourth as a base hit for Tagliareni, led to a one-out RBI knock for Kim forcing Correia out of the game for Aidan Brett. He then got a flyout and fielder's choice to retire the side.

Walker was dominant on the hill for the Red and White allowing just two hits through the first five frames. He then hit a little bit of a snag in the sixth when he hit the leadoff guy and gave up a single to leave men on the corners for Randy Adams. He would provide the only runs of the game for the Trailblazers with a two-run double to straightaway center field making it 9-2 through five-and-a-half.

Pat Metzger took over on the bump for Dickinson to begin the seventh and after setting aside the first man allowed three consecutive batters to reach loading the bases. However, he would record a strikeout and flyout to stall the threat. Dickinson ended the game in the home-half by creating a ten-run margin as singles for Torres and Thompson coupled with a free pass to Weller filled the bags for Bowman. He reached on a fielder's choice to drive in one, before three batters later Derek Smith closed out the game with a two-run single to right for the 12-2 result.

Game Two - DEVILS 11, Lions 3
Pitching Decision

W - Ethan Hamilton (2-0) | L - Chris Lowe (1-2)

Inside the Game
Each team would tally once in the first as Posencheg was hit to start the game. After two quick outs a stolen base set the stage for Kim to knock in the runner with a single to center. However, Emerson found an immediate response against Hamilton as back-to-back knocks from Quinton Copeland and Briggs Loveland, led to RBI groundout for Matt Nachamie tying the score after one.

The next four frames went by with neither side able to mount any kind of threat which held the score at 1-1 going to the sixth. Doubles by Tagliareni and Kim plated one and surrounded a strikeout by Smith. Sigmon ripped a triple to right-center adding another run to the ledger, before Torres drove him home with a knock of his own. Ethan Sodl unfortunately bounced into an inning-ending double play to leave it at 4-1. Reliver Thomas Marshman gave one back in the last of the frame thanks to two walks and an RBI single from Ty Bourne. Dickinson put the game away an inning later scoring six times against Jake Smith. Knocks by Johnny Bruno, Posencheg and Tagliareni resulted in one coming home. An RBI groundout off the stick of Bowman made it 6-2, before a two-run single by Sigmon extended it to six (8-2). After a groundout by Torres a walk to Thompson resulted in a two-run triple for Sodl stretching it out to 10-2.

Each side would tack on one more during the ninth with a single from Torres and a groundout by Thompson leading to a run-scoring knock for Sodl. Two singles along with a hit batter loaded the bases for Avery Smith who watched a passed ball plate the final run of the game.
