Inside the Game
The Devils were off and running just two batters into the game as
Desmond Watkins worked a leadoff walk against Alex McClain, before
Andrew Mazzone pounded a two-run bomb over the left-field wall.
Kaden Sigmon then followed with a double, prior to scoring three batters later on a two-out single up the box for
Matt Torres to make it 3-0 after just a-half. The Blue Jays pulled one back during the home-hafl versus
Luke Nemeth as a leadoff single, walk and double steal set the stage for an RBI groundout by Robbie Bertucio to trim the gap to 3-1 through one. Elizabethtown got back to level in the second as a pair of one-out free passes brought
Zach Wernick to the mound. Garrett Schwartzbeck greeted the new pitcher with an RBI double. The next batter was Ben Watson who was intentionally walked, which was followed by another walk this time to David Woolley to tie the score. Bertucio and Eamon McCoubrey would each add RBI hits to take a 6-3 advantage with two in the books. It took DC just three batters into the third to get another run as Mazzone doubled and Sigmon was walked leading to an RBI single for
Derek Smith. That chased McClain as Nathaniel Barnes took over with the pillows full and allowed a walk along with two hit batters to force home three more giving the Devils a 7-6 lead. That led to the third pitcher of the frame as Justin Marraccini came into the game and unleashed a wild pitch that let
Christian Kim score who had walked earlier. The rally ended when Sigmon popped up to short. However, the home side stormed back sending an astonishing 17 men to the dish, plating 11 runs on ten hits against the DC pitching duo of Wernick and
Zach Gordon to grab a 17-8 advantage heading into the fourth.Â
Dickinson tried to get something going again in the top-half of the fourth as Smith walked to kick things off. Unfortunately, the next three hitters were retired to give DC no chance to do any damage.
Nathan Weisoly went to the mound for the fourth, fifth and sixth and after allowing a leadoff two-bagger he did not surrender more than one runner in an inning as he tried to give the Red and White an opportunity to work on a comeback. However, Dickinson was only able to muster two hits over the following four frames Sigmon doubled in the sixth and Connor Hawkins provided a knock during the eighth. On the hill the combination of
Alex Hill,
Pat Metzger and Weisoly combined for five innings, three hits, five strikeouts and no runs to finish off the game.
