Devils Take Game One From Bears, Before Rain Forces Game 2 Suspension

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team got five RBIs thanks to a pair of home runs from Nathan Bowman to help overcome an early deficit in game one on Saturday against Ursinus College en route to picking up a 12-7 win. Then, in game two the Red and White held a 4-0 lead before inclement weather forced the suspension of action at MacPhail Field.

Inside the Game
Ursinus had the lead three batters in against Ethan Hamilton as a double, single and fielder's choice made it 1-0. Then, after a base-hit to right men were are the corners for Tom Snipes who smacked one through the right-side to push the margin to two, before back-to-back groundouts ended the rally. Dickinson immediately took the lead in the home-half as consecutive singles by Kenny Tagliareni and Andrew Mazzone got one in, followed by a two-bagger from Kaden Sigmon to leave two in scoring position for Derek Smith. He tied the game with a grounder to second, leading to an RBI infield single by Matt Torres to give DC a 3-2 edge through just one. The Bears were back on level terms two batters into the second thanks to a double and single. Two more singles with two gone loaded the bases for Snipes, but he went down watching strike three to leave it at 3-3.

The Red and White reclaimed the advantage in the last of the third with a one-out walk to Smith, setting the stage for a RBI two-bagger to straightaway center. The next hitter was Chase Weller and he ripped a double down the line in left to score one more for the 5-3 lead with three innings in the books. After a "one-two-three" frame from Hamilton, the Devils went to work in the home-half of the fifth and watched Dylan Posencheg kick things off with a infield hit to short. That brought Bowman into the box and sent the Snyder offering over the wall in right making it 7-3. A bunt hit by Tagliareni allowed Sigmon to stretch the lead to 8-3 with a triple to right-center. However, back-to-back strikeouts stopped the run and wrapped up the fourth. Ursinus continued to battle back during the fifth as the first seven batters of the inning reached plating two run, but had two out thanks to a pair of fielder's choices. That brought Joey Sangiuolo to the hill and he got a groundout to second to retire the side. That seemed to spark the DC offense a little more as with one-out free passes to Christian Kim and Posencheg allowed Bowman to smash his second homer of the day opening the gap to six (11-5).

Sangiuolo was outstanding over the next three innings putting away the visitors "nine up, nine-down". As he was continuing his strong outing the home side added one more with a single by Bowman and a two-bagger for Mazzone giving the Devils a seven-run cushion (12-5). However, the visitors did not go quietly as two singles and a double let two men come home, before andrew Richter flew out to end the game.

Game Two - DEVILS 4, Bears 0 (4th inning)
Note
- Game was suspended after inclement weather came through the Carlisle area

Inside the Game
Devils starter Koll Peichel allowed two singles in the first, but allowed no damage. Dickinson would get two runners of their own during the home-half, unfortunately could not get any across home. Dickinson used a Torres double, Ryan Thompson walk and passed ball to put a pair in scoring position against Kieran Hollander with one down. With Kim in the box a wild pitch let one man score. After Kim was plunked by a pitch, Posencheg smacked one through the left-side to score the second of the game. Popouts by Bowman and Mazzone surrounded a free pass to Tagliareni to end the frame. The Red and White added on in the bottom of the third as Sigmon singled to start the frame, before Smith smashed a two-run homer to extend the margin to 4-0 with one out. Max Shilstone replaced Hollander on the hill and recorded a fielder's choice and flyout to retire the side. With the rain closing in a "three up, three down" inning by Peichel shifted the game to the last of the fourth. As the rain started to come down both Sigmon and Mazzone worked their way on base, before the game was forced to come to a halt.
