CARLISLE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team got five goals from
James Isaacson and hat-trick by
Will Farrell to erase a 9-3 halftime deficit en route to a 15-12 Centennial Conference victory over Washington College (Md.) at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Devils were feeling good right off the bat as
John McKee took the opening draw and found
Ethan Gess who setup Farrell for his first of the day just 35-seconds in. However, quick responses by Ewan Temple and Connor Garrison gave the Shoremen a 2-1 lead, but DC answered right back when Farrell found Isaacson for the finish. Washington had the next three shots, but none of the tested Devils keeper
Chris Brandau. Unfortunately for Dickinson they could not solve Cole Corrigan between the pipes for the visitors as he shutdown
Matt Thurston,
Owen Porter (2), and Farrell (2). During all that home pressure it would actually be Washington that added three more goals through Luke Brennan, Garrison and Temple to take a 5-2 lead after one.Â
Corrigan continued to be the main story of the game as he stopped three more Devils shots in the opening five minutes of the second period. That allowed his squad to make it 6-2 thanks to Garrison, before he notched two more saves against
Griffin Moore and
Capp Reynolds. Finally, the home side broke back through with 8:33 off the clock when Isaacson bested the keeper with an unassisted marker trimming it down to 6-3.
Sam Campbell,
Lee Dunn and Porter were all denied by Corrigan over the next couple of minutes, while the Shoremen collected three more goals to extend their advantage to 9-3 heading into halftime.
The third quarter was all about the Red and White as Brandau forced a turnover within the first minute, leading to a strike by Isaacson. Washington would pick up their lone tally of the period at the 3:38 mark when Temple scored man-up after Farrell was boxed for a slash. Over the next six minutes the Devils held the visitors shotless while recording seven shots, and burying four goals thanks to
Sascha Gannon,
Jack Murphy,
Ben Tomick and Porter to close within 10-8 with 4:36 left. 30-seconds later Kain Domenech recorded the first Washington shot in quite awhile, but didn't scare Brandau. Instead, it was
Evan Karetsos jarring the ball loose from Temple allowing
Cole Schwartz to track down the groundball and feed a pass to
Skyler Schluter leading to a setup of Isaacson for the finish cutting the deficit to one 10-9. Brandau notched two saves of his own both against Parker Barta, while
Sam Bunten forced a turnover leading to the tying marker by Gannon leaving it at 10-10 to the fourth.Â
Dickinson continued their offensive onslaught over the opening nine minutes of the period as they recorded 16 consecutive shots, forcing Corrigan into five saves and burying the rock five times thanks to Farrell (2), Isaacson and Thurston (2) to open up a sizable 15-10 advantage with 6:37 remaining. However, the Shoremen did not go down quietly as Ben Dickinson and Garrison each picked up a goal in a two-minute span to make it 15-12 still with three minutes left. The Red Devils would put together a staunch defensive effort the rest of the way giving up five shots, but not really testing the keeper to see out the win.
