CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team continued their stiff non-conference slate on Saturday afternoon by welcoming the 16th-ranked Generals of Washington & Lee University to the Biddle Field Complex. After a scoreless opening 30-minutes, the visitors tallied once in both the third and fourth quarters to leave Carlisle with a 2-0 win.
Dickinson would have the first pressure of the game three minutes as two corners played in by
Abby Marthins led to a pair of
Morgan Yandow-Harding shots, but neither tested Abby Long. With ten minutes off the clock Washington & Lee mounted their best attack when two consecutive corners resulted in offerings from Sydney Baggett, Margaret Cover and Maddy Duggleby prompting two saves for Devils keeper
Olivia Renault holding things at 0-0 after one.
The second period was contested exclusively in the middle of the pitch as neither side could tip things in their favor. Dickinson would have the only corner of the frame, unfortunately, it did not result in a look at cage.Â
Four minutes into the third the Red and White were on the attack with
Maggie Carson having a chance blocked, while
Becca Woods rang the post next to Generals new keeper Julia McDonald. Then in the 40th-minute, WLU would take advantage of two corners as Betty Boatwright was denied by Renault, before the rebound kicked out to Zoe Dolfis who found Duggleby for the finish. The Devils would tally one more shot in the frame, but
Abby Hill missed the target to leave it at 1-0 through three.Â
Starting the fourth the Generals controlled the play earning two corners and picking up a goal thanks to Kate Ruffin for a 2-0 advantage with 52:29 off the clock. Dickinson would notch the final three shots of the match, but the attempts from
Malena Malka Goldman, Hill and A. Marthins did not get to the mark ending things at 2-0.Â
