CARLISLE, Pa. - For roughly 85 minutes the Dickinson women's soccer team did exactly what they wanted to do on Wednesday night against the fifth-ranked team in the nation Messiah University. Unfortunately, in that other five minute span the Falcons netted two goals and were able to leave Miller Memorial Field with a 2-0 non-conference win.
The opening five minutes went by with neither side able to put any pressure together in the attacking third as it would take until 5:41 to see the first shot when Kristina Akselsen had her attempt denied by
Elizabeth Allen. Over the next ten minutes Messiah would continue to apply the pressure as Kaitlyn Laird and Hannah Adair (4) all let attempts go towards goal that tasked Allen with recording two more stops. Despite Dickinson putting together some solid possession and pushes towards the Falcons goal they were not able to test Ava Wert during the period as the visitors held an 8-0 shot advantage through 45-minutes.
To begin the second period the Falcons continued to apply the pressure as Laird let a shot fly just 35-seconds in. Then, just a minute later after a foul committed by the Devils about 22-yards away from goal Adair let a shot go on the ensuing free kick that looped just over the head and out-stretched hands of Allen into the goal for the 1-0 lead. Dickinson came right back down into the attacking third off the restart, but the offering from
Maddie St. Amand went over Wert's head. Messiah made it 2-0 with 50:30 off the clock as a corner kick played in from the left-side by Bella Touzeau found Julia Martin who headed the ball into the net. Unfortunately, for the Devils they were only able to muster one more shot of the night as
Sophia Elguera had her offering snuffed out by the defense allowing the visitors to leave with a 2-0 win.
