CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's soccer team got second-half goals from
Lila Brown and
Norah Heacock both off of corner kicks played in by
Emily Dunkel to secure a pivotal three points in the race for the Centennial Conference playoffs thanks to a 2-1 win over the visiting Ursinus College Bears on Saturday afternoon at Miller Memorial Field.
- The opening half hour saw Dickinson record six shots with Lauren Ervin, Georgia Mantione and Ellie Nordwind missing the mark, while Bridget Merkel and Ava Prisco forced UC keeper Mandy Carideo to make a pair of saves.
- Despite the all-out pressure from the Red and White it was the Bears who struck first as Maddie Jolie was able to slide a shot past DC goalie Sophia Kavulich with 33:54 gone.
- Dickinson added three more shots in the frame as Ava Burgess, Brown and Merkel tried to find an equalizer, but no one bothered Carideo as the match went to the break.
- The Devils spent the opening 20-plus minutes on the attack with Maddie St. Amand, Merkel (2) and Prisco tasking Carideo with making four more saves as the match entered the final 15 minutes.
- Ursinus would tally their first chance of the period with 74:33 gone as Taylor Pezulich sent the ball right of Kavulich's net.
- That gave the Devils the opportunity to go back down the pitch and make the game level as Dunkel dropped a corner kick right onto the head of Heacoch who made it 1-1.
- Just when it seemed like the two sides were destined to share the points, Merkel worked herself into the box and blasted a shot off of Carideo which gave DC a corner. Dunkel would serve the ball to the noggin of Brown who had charged to the edge of the six-yard box sending it past Carideo for the match winner in the 87th minute.
