HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Dickinson men's tennis team began their Spring Break trip on Sunday afternoon with a convincing 7-2 non-conference win over the Mustangs of Stevenson University at Chaplin Park.
Doubles (DEVILS 2-1)
The match started strong for the Red and White as the first-year duo of
Drew Allen and
Sid Ramaswamy dominated Dominic Duncan and Delano Sagne Mengo by a score of 8-2 at number three. Stevenson drew level through the team of Larry Johnson III and Smeon Smith edging out
Romano De Caprio and
Will Lewis in a tiebreaker 7-4 to take the match 8-7. Dickinson took the lead into singles when the second unit with
DJ Finnell and
Levi Veleanu holding off Sathwik Madasi and Nickolas Valis (8-6).
Singles (DEVILS 5-1)
DC opened up a 3-1 lead on the scoreboard when De Caprio playing at number two brought down Madasi in a super tiebreaker 10-2. The Mustangs trimmed one off the gap in the top slot where Johnson III and Veleanu exchanging wins of 6-4, before Johnson won the super tiebreaker 10-7. The Devils then locked up the match with straight set victories at three (
Eddy Chow) and four (Finnell) by scores of 62, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively as that made it 5-2. However, the Red and White were not done as Lewis (5th) and Allen (6th) allowed a combined four games to their opponents to post the 7-2 win.Â
The Next Serve
Dickinson (6-0) gets right back at it tomorrow evening at 5pm when they take on Webster University at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club.
