HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team continued their offensive eruption to begin the 2024 season as six players had multiple hits on the day as the Red and White posted their seventh game of the year with double-digit runs picking up a 21-10 non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon over the host Juniata College Eagles.
Time of Game: 3:30
Pitching Decision: W -
Drew Norton (2-0) | L - Connor Blough (1-1)
Inside the Game
Dickinson got on the board early and often as a double for
Nathan Bowman and walk to
Ryan Thompson led to an RBI single for
Kaden Sigmon making it 1-0 entering the home-half of the first. After DC starter
Nathan Weisoly issued a leadoff walk, he got Charlie Bakken to bounce into a double play and fanned Michael Warren to move the game to the second.
Josh Markley singled and
Chase Weller was hit by a pitch to place two on with two down. That brought
Kenny Tagliareni to the dish and he blasted a Connor Blough offering over the wall pushing it out to 4-0 through two. The Red and White continued to pound away in the third when with two out and one on, Weller and
Christian Kim provided back-to-back doubles plating two more for a 6-0 advantage. That was the end of the day for Blough as Hunter Thomas took to the mound and immediately gave up an RBI poke to
Luke Gartland (7-0) entering the fourth. The Devils just kept on going during the top of the fourth when singles to Tagliareni and Bowman gave way to an RBI single for Thompson. Two batters later Sigmon ripped a single to left scoring one more, followed by consecutive walks and another hit batter to force home two more making it 11-0 through three-and-a-half. With one gone in the bottom of the frame Corey Daniels walked and stole his way to third, before coming home on a sacrifice fly from Zach Johnston to trim the gap to 11-1 after four.
Robbie Pliszka became the third pitcher of the day for the Eagles as replaced Thomas to start the fifth and allowed a single as well as two walks to load the bags with just one out for Markley. He delivered an RBI single to left, before Weller came up with a sac fly and Kim smoked a two-run hit out to right collecting runs three and four of the frame making it 15-1. Juniata would load the cushions with one down in the last of the inning, leading to a two-run double from Daniels. That chased Weisoly from the game and brought on
Drew Norton. He allowed a sac fly along with an RBI knock out to right-center trimming the gap to 15-5. Following a quiet top of the sixth for DC the Eagles continued to chip away as they loaded the bases with two away, resulting in a pair of RBI two-baggers and an RBI walk cutting the deficit by five more 15-10. However, Dickinson was not done as walks to Tagliareni and Bowman as well as a single from Thompson filled the pillows for
Matt Torres. He was plunked by a pitch to score one, prior to Sigmon clearing the bases thanks to a three-run double and a Juniata error later in the frame allowing Sigmon to cross for the commanding 20-10 advantage. The Devils were not done however as
George Thorp smashed a solo homer to left.
Glen Cantalupo Jr. went to the hill trying to slam the door shut in the home-half of the ninth and that was exactly what he did by striking out the side to seal the win.
