Devils Ruin Senior Day for Bears with Huge DH Sweep

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Dickinson baseball team continued to tighten their grip on a possible number two seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon by spoiling Senior Day for the host Ursinus College by sweeping the Bears out of Thomas Field by scores of 5-4 and 5-3.

Game One (DEVILS 5, Bears 4)
Records: Ursinus - 12-20, 5-8 Centennial | Dickinson - 22-8, 10-3 Centennial
Time of Game: 2:12
Pitching Decision: W - Ben Myers (2-3) | L - Dan Bass (3-4) | S - Joey Sangiuolo (5)

Inside the Game
The home side took a 1-0 lead in the last of the first thanks to a walk and two singles against first-year starter Ben Myers. However, Dickinson answered right back in the top of the second as Kaden Sigmon ledoff with a single, before immediately being brought home of a double by Matt Torres. He was then plated by the next man up Johnny Bruno who pounded the Dan Bass pitch over the left-centerfield fence to make it 3-1 through an inning-and-a-half. Ursinus used two more base hits and a walk to set the stage for a fielder's choice by Brandon Sullivan that pushed one more across to cut it down to 3-2. The next two innings were all about the pitchers as both Bass and Myers seemed to find a groove as the game stayed 3-2 into the top of the fifth. With two away Dylan Posencheg singled and Ryan Thompson worked a free pass to bring Sigmon to the dish with two on. He would stretch the lead to 5-2 with a double out to right-center scoring both men. Myers posted a nice shutdown frame with two strikeouts and a groundout send things to the sixth. The home-half of the inning saw Matteo George takeover for Myers on the hill and allowed two singles and a hit by pitch to fill the bags for Jakob Cantor. During his at-bat a wild pitch let one come in to trim the gap down to just 5-3. Sangiuolo then came in from the bullpen and got Cantor to flyout for the final out. Ursinus used four singles in the last of the eighth to scratch one more across making it 5-4 going to the ninth. Dickinson tried to come up with an insurance run during the top of the ninth as both Kenny Tagliareni and Posencheg reached, but neither could come in. Sangiuolo would slam the door shut on the Bears in the ninth as he set them down in order thanks to a pair of flyouts and groundout.

Devils Mound Report
Myers earned the win with five solid innings allowing just two runs on six hits to go along with six strikeouts and three walks. George went 0.2 of an inning conceding one run thanks to two hits and a K. Sangiuolo secured his fifth save tossing 3.1 frames giving up four hits and one run.

Game Two (DEVILS 5, Bears 3)
Records: Ursinus - 12-21, 5-9 Centennial | Dickinson - 23-8, 11-3 Centennial
Time of Game: 2:45
Pitching Decision: W - Koll Peichel (6-1) | L - Kieran Hollander (0-5) | S - Brian Riley (1)

Inside the Game
Following a quiet first inning for both Hollander and Peichel, Dickinson went to work in the top of the second as a single by Torres and free pass to Josh Markley set the stage for a UC miscue during an at-bat for Christian Kim letting one come across to take a 1-0 edge. Peichel allowed an infield single in the home-half of the frame, but got a flyout from Dylan Runsdorf to retire the side. That gave the Red and White a chance to immediately extend their advantage when a knock for Tagliareni and error letting Thompson reach put two on with two away. Both runners stole a bag to put a pair in scoring position allowing Torres to rip a two-run single to left stretching it to 3-0, before Bruno pounded a triple to right-center making the lead 4-0 after two-and-a-half. The Bears used a triple and a groundout in the bottom-half to trim the gap to 4-1 through three. Peichel continued to be strong on the hill for the Devils as he held to three-run advantage into the last of the sixth. Ursinus finally got to the Devils starter again in the sixth as two walks and a single filled the pillows for Dylan Crammer who produced an RBI fielder's choice making it 4-2 as things shifted to the seventh. Two singles, a sacrifice bunt and a groundout forced one more across for the home side putting Dickinson's lead to just one at 4-3. The Red and White finally got a much needed insurance run during the top of the ninth when a one-out walk to Thompson and single for Sigmon had runners at the corners for Torres who delivered a sac fly to right bumping the margin out to 5-3. With the Bears facing their last chance Riley who took over on the hill in the eighth allowed a leadoff single, but got a lineout, strikeout and flyout to end the game.

Devils Mound Report
Peichel continued his outstanding season by tossing seven strong innings allowing just three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Riley nailed down the save with two solid frames giving up just two hits, while recording a pair of K's and a walk.
