HAVERFORD, Pa. - Following a tough loss in game one the Dickinson baseball team got back to their winning ways in Centennial Conference play by clubbing four home runs in game two to pick up a much needed split against the Haverford College Fords at Kannerstein Field.

Time of Game: 2:36
Pitching Decision: W - Mike Rabayda (4-2) | L -
Austin Buzza (2-3)
Inside the Game
Haverford wasted no time getting on the board as a walk and two singles led to one coming across just three batters in, before Buzza settled down to record two strikeouts and a groundout to retire the side. Dickinson answered back during the top of the second when
Josh Markley drew a walk with one away allowing a double off the bat of
Christian Kim to knot the score with two in the books. Both pitches had a quiet third letting things stay at 1-1 entering the last of the fourth. Three consecutive singles loaded the bags with no outs for Matt Dahl. He would reach safely on an error letting one score, followed two batter's later with an inning-ending fielder's choice allowing another to come in for a 3-1 edge going to the fifth.Â
After both sides went "one-two-three" in the fifth and the Devils were kept silent during the top of the sixth the Fords went to work in the home-half. Following a leadoff hit batter,
Joey Sangiuolo was brought into the game replacing Buzza and he gave up a single and walk to load the bags for Dahl. For the second time in the game he would be the reason the home side added onto their lead producing a two-run single through the right-side. Sangiuolo picked off a man at third for the first out, but then another hit and walk set the stage for a two-run double off the stick of Harry Genth opening up the gap to 7-1. The Fords added two more in the frame on a sacrifice fly and single to hold a commanding 9-1 edge heading to the seventh. Drew Doyle took over on the bump for Rabayda and walked two men in addition to plunking
Kenny Tagliareni to load the bags with one down.
Ryan Thompson then stepped into the box and ripped a two-run single up the middle, but an error on the centerfielder allowed the third man to cross closing the gap to 9-4. However, Dickinson could get no closer the rest of the game as the Fords finished off the game.
Devils Mound Report
Buzza suffered the loss despite a solid outing of five innings giving up five hits allowing four runs (three earned) and fanning six. Sangiuolo had a rough one inning surrendering five hits and five runs to go along with two walks.
Zach Wernick also tossed two frames issuing just one hit and a walk, but hit two men.
Game Two (DEVILS 8, Fords 6)
Records: Haverford (12-10, 2-3 CC) | Dickinson (15-7, 3-2 CC)
Time of Game: 2:24
Pitching Decision: W -
Brian Riley (3-0) | L - Alex Jenkinson (0-1) | S -
Joey Sangiuolo (4)
Inside the Game
Both teams had chances to score in the first two innings, but starting pitchers Wyatt Mattison and
Koll Peichel were able to pitch around trouble keeping things scoreless entering the last of the third. Two singles and a sac bunt put two in scoring position with one out. That was when the Fords claimed the 1-0 lead thanks to a groundout for Jack Wallis. Then, in the top of the fourth, a leadoff knock from
Matt Torres set the stage for a two-run homer for
Chase Weller giving DC a 2-1 edge. However, Mattison was then able to setdown the next three hitters to retire the side. Dickinson maintained their advantage into the bottom of the fifth when Genth picked up a home run of his own to knot the game at 2-2. The Red and White prevented Mattison from posting an all important shutdown inning as Torres singled and went to second on an error. That brought Weller to the box and he would also reach safely thanks to another Haverford miscue. With men on the corners
Luke Gartland provided a sacrifice fly to right driving home the go-ahead run making it 3-2 entering the seventh.
That was when the Devils showed off more power as both
Johnny Bruno and Thompson picked up a solo home run to stretch the advantage to 5-2. Unfortunately, the trio of
Dylan Posencheg,
Kaden Sigmon and Tagliareni were kept off the basepath to keep the margin where it was. The Fords had an immediate answer during the home-half of the inning when with one out a single and double led to a pair of runners in scoring position for Wallis. He brought the home side level with a three-run jack off of Peichel. That would lead to Riley taking over on the mound and he allowed a double, but got Luke Treese to strikeout to end the rally. The game remained in a deadlock into the ninth inning where with two gone Thompson singled and Sigmon worked a free pass, leading to Torres blasting a three-run homer making it 8-5. In the bottom-half a walk and hit batter put two on with one gone. Sangiuolo then replaced Riley for his second appearance of the day. He issued two straight walks to force one man in, before a flyout and strikeout ended the game.
Devils Mound Report
Peichel went the first 6.2 innings allowing nine hits and five runs, while striking out ten. Riley tossed the ensuing 1.2 frames giving up one run on one hit in addition to fanning two. Sangiuolo secured the save with 0.2 innings of shutout relief.Â
