Inside the Game
Following a quiet first inning for both starters
Koll Peichel and Mike Rabayda, it would be the Fords that got on the board first as a double, walk and wild pitch had two in scoring position with two away in the top of the second for Matt Dahl. He would poke the Peichel offering through the left side to drive in both for a 2-0 lead heading to the third. To start that frame
Charlie Bien went to the hill for Dickinson and immediately hit some difficulty as a single and walk put a pair on for Kyle Beach who came up with an RBI single making it 3-0. Haverford pushed it out to 4-0 later in the inning as a fielder's choice and free pass loaded the cushions with two down and set the stage for an RBI hit by pitch for Jonny Flieder. Dahl then flew out to right retiring the side. The Devils tried to respond during the home-half as back-to-back walks to
Johnny Bruno and
Christian Kim followed by a balk placed a pair in scoring position with two away for
Luke Gartland who also drew a walk filling the pillows for DC. Unfortunately, though
Ryan Thompson would groundout to third ending the threat. The game stayed 4-0 until the top of the fifth when the Fords took advantage of two singles to scratch one more across this time off of new arm
Brian Riley.
Dickinson finally struck during the top of the sixth inning when a pair of errors led to two on base with two away. That sent
Josh Markley to the dish and he ripped a single into left to make it 5-1 after six.
Joey Sangiuolo recorded a clean seventh to give the DC attack a chance in the home-half as singles from
Kenny Tagliareni and Gartland along with an error allowing Kim to reach loaded the bases for Thompson. He provided an RBI groundout, before
Matt Torres was hit by a pitch to fill the bags for
Kaden Sigmon. He would not face Rabayda as Drew Doyle took over on the mound and uncorked a wild pitch to plate one and move two into scoring position. Three consecutive walks worked by Sigmon, Markley and Bruno resulted in two more coming in to tie the game at 5-5 entering the eighth. The Fords would get a baserunner during the top-half of the inning but could not push him across as Sangiuolo induced an inning-ending double-play. Then in the home portion a single for
Dylan Posencheg, walk to Gartland and a hit batter loaded the bags for Torres with one down. He would give DC their first lead with a sacrifice fly to center making it 6-5, before Sigmon grounded out for the final out. Haverford picked up a one-out single by Mauro DeCillis in the ninth, but a lineout and strikeout ended the game keeping the Red and White alive.
