GRANTHAM, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Dickinson men's soccer team got second-half goals from
Ethan Jarden and
Saul Iwowo to erase a 1-0 deficit and grab a massive 2-1 non-conference road victory over the third-ranked Messiah University Falcons on Wednesday night at Shoemaker Field. The win marks the biggest for the Devils under current head coach
Jorge Chapoy as well as the first in program history over Messiah and was the first home loss for Messiah since November 4, 2017.
- The two sides shared the opening four shots with Nicholas Dwamena and Jarden recording the chances for the Red and White.Â
- Dickinson then started asking questions of Falcons keeper Adam Carter as Johnny Diederich and Timi Omoniwa tasked Carter with making stops.
- Luke Beiles and Jackson Wolf forced Carter to notch one more save prior to half to keep the score 0-0 through 45 minutes.
- Messiah made their opening shot of the period count as Josh Bratager slipped one past DC keeper Aidan George.Â
- That snapped the Devils back to attention with Luke Finkielstein and Dwamena firing shots at Carter which he was able to beat to the side.
- However, Dickinson would not be deterred from finding an equalizer as a corner kick played into the box in the 59th minute led to a huge scramble in front of Carter and eventually saw Jarden poke the ball into the net.
- George would make two stops over the ensuing 20 minutes stopping both Patrick Lee and Isaac Schmitke to hold the 1-1 scoreline into the final few minutes.
- Carter shutdown Iwowo and Tyson Burling in the 89th, but ultimately Iwowo would get a second chance and make the Falcons pay for not clearing their line as Daniel Spataro hit him for the finish with 21 seconds to go (2-1).
