CARLISLE, Pa. - For Dickinson men's lacrosse head coach
Dave Webster there is an annual rite of passage that his team must go through each fall for the last 18 years, before they even step foot on the Biddle Field turf. That is to take part in the annual Volleyball-A-Thon to benefit the Greater Pennsylvania Region Chapter of the American Red Cross.
This past Friday evening through Saturday the men's lacrosse team was out on the campus sand volleyball court playing for 24 consecutive hours as the 2025 team held the event and raised a program record $22,062. Throughout the course of the event the team was joined by other teams as well as various clubs and organizations on campus to help the gentlemen persevere through the long night and early part of the morning when the athletes were running on fumes.
Braving a light rain off and on throughout the day senior team captains
Evan Karetsos and
Owen Porter shed some light on how they approached the weather. "This is Dickinson weather", Karetsos said. "When it gets dirty and sloppy that is when we thrive. We want the newcomers to the team to understand that this type of weather will not faze us whether it be on the sand or once the season begins this is when we will come together and battle through." Porter echoed the same thoughts adding "we are going to be out here rain or shine because it is what we signed on for, but it means even more to us when we see other teams, clubs and individuals come out to join and support us. Ultimately, it all benefits the Red Cross and that is ultimate goal to help them out anyway we can."
"This is an event not only for our team, but for the entire Dickinson community" stated Coach Webster. "There is so much good that our student-athletes here at Dickinson do that when we have the chance to loop in other groups on campus and make it a community-wide event it can only be a positive thing."
