Men's Lacrosse Volleyball-A-Thon Earns Them Runner Up for National Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Dickinson men's lacrosse team was recognized for their service to the Carlisle community earlier this week at the NCAA National Convention as they received a runner-up finish for the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) Community Service Award.

The NADIIIAA Community Service Awards program, established in 2001, is intended to recognize the many contributions Division III student-athletes regularly make to their campuses and local communities. Recognition is given for projects in three categories: One-Time Activity/Project, Special Olympics Activity, and Community Partnerships. In addition to presenting commemorative awards to the three winning institutions, NADIIIAA will make up to a $1,000 contribution to the general scholarship fund at each of these institutions.

Dickinson staked their claim to their portion of the award by holding their 18th Annual Volleyball-A-Thon back in September. The team partners with the Greater Pennsylvania Region Chapter of the American Red Cross and collects donations to go play volleyball for 24 consecutive hours. The 2025 team raised a program record $22,062 and were joined throughout the course of the event by other teams, campus clubs and organizations to help the gentlemen persevere through the long night and early part of the morning when the athletes were running on fumes.

Red Devils Head Coach David Webster offered his insight on the event and what it means "Our team has committed to making a difference in our local community with this event each and every year." He went on to add "It has been great fun for our team and we have been able to raise significant funds for the local Red Cross.  We are honored to be recognized for this event and our commitment to genuine community service."

Director of Athletics Celine Cunningham said this of the accomplishment "Our men's lacrosse student-athletes have set a powerful example of how sports can be so impactful on building community. By organizing this annual event and raising over $20,000 for the Red Cross, they not only supported a great cause but also built a stronger, more united community. By inviting other athletic teams and student groups to join in, they turned giving into a collective effort that highlights the value of teamwork and generosity. I am so proud of Coach Webster, his staff, and all the student-athletes that participated."
