No. 14 Devils Get Back to Winning Ways by Knocking Off Owls

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - After suffering their first loss of the season on Tuesday night at third-ranked Johns Hopkins University, the 14th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as a 34th-minute tally from Maggie Carson saw the Red and White pick up a 1-0 Centennial Conference win over Bryn Mawr College at Shillingford Field.

First Quarter

  • The home side was on the attack early as a penalty corner in the third minute led to shots from Annick Van Blerkom and Leya Patel that were both stopped by Taylor Morrow.
  • It took the Devils until the eighth minute to record their first chances of the day when the pair of Sophia Pereira and Carson had their attempts batted away by Charlene Basque.
  • BMC had the opportunity to grab the lead in the final minute of the period, but Morrow had the answer for Maggie Barilla and Ilona Bender.

Second Quarter

  • Dickinson tried to take advantage of two corners in the fourth minute as Carson inserted the ball to both Alexandra Hockwitt and Gillian Rosenstock. However, each of their shots rolled wide of cage.
  • In a mostly defensive period the visitors tallied one last shot with 26:41 gone when Natalie Slusser charged up from her defending roll and ripped the ball wide of Basque.

Third Quarter

  • The Devils had the chance to get on the board less than a minute in, but the corner played in by Carson resulted in no shot.
  • Fortunately, the old adage of if you don't succeed keep on trying paid off for the Red and White as Carson connected with Hockwitt off a corner for a shot that was stopped by Basque. However, the ensuing rebound found Uebele who had her chance saved, but Carson would collect the ball and stuff it past Basque for the goal with 3:38 gone.
  • That goal seemed to spark the DC attack as they earned four corners and record two shots over the remainder of the period, unfortunately neither Erin Liggio or Rosenstock could not add onto their edge.
  • The story of the frame was the Devils defense as they locked up the Owls for the entire 15 minutes not allowing a single shot.

Fourth Quarter

  • Bryn Mawr tried to use a corner of their own less than a minute in to find an equalizer, but Morrow denied the pair of Addison Graupensperger and Barilla.
  • Over the ensuing five minutes a trio of Dickinson corner chances yielded no shots towards Basque.
  • The Owls recorded two more chances in the match none of which tested Morrow allowing the Red and White to see out the 1-0 win.
