#23 Red Hawks Too Much for Devils in Season Opener

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team got double-digits from newcomers Dane Moran (26) and Jacob Pichay (15), but it was not enough on the day as the 23rd-ranked Red Hawks of Montclair State University picked up a 97-63 non-conference win over the Red and White on Day One of the Penn State-Harrisburg Tipoff Classic inside the Capital Union Building.

First Half
  • Dickinson raced out to a 9-5 lead with 17:33 to go on buckets for Andrew Cerullo, Joey Dopirak and Moran.
  • Buckets from Cristian Nicholson and Kunga Tsering sparked a 9-0 sprint for MSU to take a 14-9 edge. 
  • Four free throws by Pichay kept DC hanging in at 19-14, but a 13-1 response for the Red Hawks opened up a 32-15 advantage with 10:55 off the clock.
  • A layup for Moran along with foul shots by Ian Polonowski and Dopirak accounted for the next five Devil points as the score read 39-20 at the 2:17 mark.
  • The duo of Pichay and Polonowski kept the gap at 19 going to the break at 46-27 MSU.
Second Half
  • Six of the first nine points belonged to the Red Hawks as a dunk by Myles Primas made it 52-30 just over a minute in.
  • Moran scored the next five Dickinson points, but Ryan Cassels, Christian Cevis, Jacob Morales and Tsering mounted a 10-2 run to extend the margin to 68-37 still with 13:30 left.
  • Buckets for Juan Ruiz, Moran and Pichay continued to keep the Devils fighting at 77-46 at the halfway point of the period.
  • A layup by Kabrien Goss and jumper for Cristian Nicholson bookended a 10-0 charge from the Red Hawks to make it 87-46 with 11:21 gone.
  • Bryce Donovan, Ryan Leskauskas, Cerullo, Moran and Pichay all collected points for the Red and White over the rest of the frame, but they could not get any closer as MSU finished off the 97-63 win.
