From the Mind of Coach Webster
- Thoughts on Schedule
-
As always, we try and play a very challenging out of conference schedule to prepare us for highly competitive grind of the Centennial Conference. 6 of our first 7 contests will be against teams that were in the NCAA Tournament last year including two teams ranked in the preseason Top-4. We will learn a lot and have fun competing and growing in the early season.
- What have you seen in the preseason that has you excited about the season?
- With a February 1st start date, we don't have much of a preseason. We had five practices and then a scrimmage and then five more practices leading us into our first game. We have to balance trying to teach a lot and install the various parts of our game with trying to get into game shape and working on fundamentals. We have seen consistent energy and effort and great leadership from our senior class.
- How have your first-years acclimated to the college game so far?
- Our first-years have made a strong start and we attribute that to the arriving last fall in shape and excited to learn. We did a great job recruiting this class as they arrived with a terrific attitude and a growth mindset. We think this is a talented and focused group that has contributed to our strong team culture.
- What is your outlook for the year ahead?
- We have focused on building an elite team culture where we support each other and learn to have fun while competing at the highest level. We don't focus much on expectations we simply attempt each day to live up to and elevate our standards – on and off the field. If we do that consistently, I believe we can be competitive in the Centennial Conference. We have some new players in some much bigger roles than they have played before which will take some time for them to get completely comfortable. We have good depth and a hard-working team and we are excited to start on Sunday.
