CARLISLE, Pa. - The tenth-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team knew that they faced some stiff competition in Sunday's season opener as the 13th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology came calling to Biddle Field. Unfortunately, for the Red and White a seven-goal outburst for the Ducks in the second period built up a lead that was too much to overcome as they collected an 11-6 non-conference win.
- Each keeper was called on early as Rocco Bognet shutdown Tommy Robertozzi, while at the other end Cooper Foote denied Capp Reynolds.
- The next seven attempts went to the visitors with Bognet making two stops, but Robertozzi would dent the scoreboard to make it 1-0 with about ten minutes to go.
- After Foote turned aside Matt Thurston, Finlay Macknight finished off a feed from Robertozzi at the 6:59 mark.
- Both Owen Binder and Ethan Gess were unable to solve Foote over the next five minutes.
- However, Dickinson finally cracked it in the final 15 seconds as Cullen Mulhern struck unassisted, followed at the horn by Reynolds sticking a pass from Gess into the goal knotting it at 2-2 after one.
- The second frame belonged to the Ducks as Foote made three saves, while at the other end of the field four different players combined for seven goals to open up a 9-2 advantage after 30 minutes.
- Each keeper would be tasked with making a pair of stops in the opening five minutes as Bognet denied Connor Gabilanes and Matthew Pergola, while Foote had the answers for Mac Childs as well as Luke Whalen.
- About a minute later the Devils pulled one back as Jack Deady separated the rock from Jack Tenaglia leading to Whalen cashing in at the other end with 9:10 left.
- That was followed 30-seconds later by Owen Porter setting up Jack Murphy for the strike trimming the gap to 9-4.
- After Bognet secured another save shutting down Gabilanes, the ball made its way to Evan Karetsos who found Mulhern who then hit Porter for the finish to bring the score to 9-5 heading to the fourth.
- The goalies were once again on full display early combining for five stops over the first five minutes.
- Two minutes later a giveaway by the Red and White led to Robertozzi collecting another goal stopping the DC charge making it 10-5.
- Dickinson continued to try and battle back, but Gess and Murphy had their offerings saved by Foote as the game entered the final four minutes.
- Robertozzi and Gess would trade goals prior to the end of the game to set the 11-6 final.
