SCRANTON, Pa. - The 14th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team outshot the host University of Scranton 55-17 (26-5 on goal) and forced the Royals into 33 giveaways en route to posting a defensive clinic 7-2 non-conference victory at Weiss Field on Saturday afternoon.
- After the home side recorded the first shot of the game two minutes in, the Red and White tallied the next six shots through Mac Childs, Ethan Gess, Evan Karetsos, Cullen Mulhern and Jack Murphy, but only two of them tested Carsen Kirchner.
- With ten minutes gone, Will McDonald jarred the ball free from Pat McCormack which sent Capp Reynolds into the attack leading to chances for Preston Boyd, Gess and Mulhern. However, the Devils were not able to get any of them on cage.
- The dry spell finally came to an end with 11:23 gone as Gess caused a giveaway, tracked down the loose ball and got it ahead to Karetsos who scored with the long-pole.
- Dickinson had the lead at 2-0 entering the second when Ben Trucksess claimed the ensuing faceoff allowing Owen Binder to eventually find Murphy for the finish.
- The Devils need just 34-seconds to add another one as Ethan Ackerman corralled the opening draw and fed the rock ahead to Mulhern who beat Kirchner.
- Scranton made their first shot of the period count when Jason Kozak solved Rocco Bognet at the 2:26 mark, but DC answered right back as Tommy Baldini and Luke Whalen missed the target before Mulhern collected his second of the day.
- After Kozak's marker trimmed the gap to 4-2, Charlie Baughan cashed in just over a minute later to extend the margin back to three at 5-2 with five minutes left.
- Kirchner would shutdown Baughan with 12:49 gone, but a late turnover by the Royals allowed Mulhern to complete his hat trick with just a second to play allowing the visitors to take a 6-2 edge to the break.
- Neither side was able to get on track offensively coming out of the locker room as the two sides combined for 16 shots over the first 11 minutes with the Devils tasking Kirchner with making five saves during that time.
- Dickinson finally dented the scoreboard against with 3:11 left when Gess connected with Ramsey Huggins to make it 7-2.
- Less than a minute later the Devils tried to extend their lead with a man-up opportunity, but both Landen Hyatt and Trucksess hit the post, while Kirchner denied the pair of Huggins and Murphy (2) to send the game to the fourth at 7-2.
- Kirchner picked up right where he left off to start the final period as he denied both Binder and Murphy inside the first five minutes.
- Scranton then went on the offensive tallying seven of the next eight shots thanks to a pair of man-up opportunities, but Bognet picked up two more saves to keep it at 7-2 with eight to go.
