PHILADELPHIA – The 18th-ranked Dickinson women's squash team couldn't overcome a strong Georgetown University Hoyas team in the opening round of the College Squash Association teams nationals. The 15th-ranked Hoyas won the match by a 7-2 margin forcing the Red Devils to now move into the plate division of the Kurtz Cup.
Inside the Match
The Red Devils remained strong at the top of the ladder but couldn't find the depth to take down the Hoyas. Sophomore Anne Leakey won the top flight in the tight four games, including a come from behind win in the third game, after being down 10-2, winning ten straight points which swung the match in Leakey's favor. The second point for the Red Devils came in the second flight, with Sophomore Katie Herring also needing four games to take down Cecillia Curran. A convincing 11-2 fourth game sealed the deal for Herring. Some other good performances scattered throughout the rest of the match, including in the fifth flight, Victoria Savelius stealing the third game, before falling in four games.
