OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The 17th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team gave up the first eight goals of the game and never were able to get back into it on Friday afternoon as the third-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers posted an impressive 24-7 win on Day One of the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic on the campus of Stevenson University.
- Despite the group of Mac Childs, Ramsey Huggins, Hagen McTear, Owen Porter Ben Trucksess and Matt Thurston racking up five shots in the opening five minutes none were able to get past RIT keeper Alex Zborowski.Â
- However, at the other end of the field the Tigers bested DC goalie Rocco Bognet on eight of their opening nine shots to grab a commanding 8-0 edge with 2:51 left.
- Dickinson tried to get on the board heading into the second, but Ethan Gess, Childs, Porter and Thurston were all turned aside by Zborowski.
- The Devils recorded the first chance of the frame when Tommy Baldini was shutdown by Zborowski just 29-seconds in.
- Clifford Gaston would then add two of his seven on the afternoon to extend the margin to 10-0 with 3:45 gone.
- The Red and White finally cracked the code with 9:14 remaining as Thurston best the keeper.
- Unfortunately, for DC the Tigers just continued to add onto their advantage by picking up four of the final five goals of the quarter to take a 14-2 lead into the break as Luke Whalen accounted for the Devils marker.
- Ben Tompkins took over between the pipes to begin the period and was immediately tested by Logan Fletcher, Nate Senez and Gaston with one getting past him.
- Off the ensuing faceoff win for Trucksess, Whalen buried the rock to cut it down to 15-3, but RIT would add four more over the next six-plus minutes making it 19-3.
- Dickinson's next shot came with 5:44 left and it would also find the back of the net thanks to Ethan Gess off a dish from Sam Bunten.
- Gaston put one more home (20-4) prior to end of the frame, while shots for Charlie Baughan, Luke Devlin, Huggins and Thurston were unable to hit the mark.Â
- Jack Schutte would hit the back of the net with the Devils second chance of the frame, but Caden Daley and Ryan Langille combined to post three straight to make it 23-5 with 8:47 to play.
- Coming off a stop for Tompkins on Brenden McLeod, Dickinson went down the other way and watch Parker Polgar be shutdown before Hagen McTear tickled the twine with 6:25 remaining.
- Three minutes later Whalen finished off a nice pass from Baughan on a man-up opportunity, but Joe Gibbons struck once more for RIT to set the 24-7 final.
