CARLISLE, Pa. - The 13th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team fell behind early 5-1 in the first and were never able to dig all the way out as despite closing to within 9-7 late in the second quarter the visiting 19th-ranked Stevenson University was able to leave Biddle Field with a 16-10 non-conference win on Saturday afternoon.
- Dickinson had the early chance to take the lead off the opening faceoff as Ben Trucksess fired the ball at Tyler Merchant who made the stop just six seconds in. However, that led to Stevenson scoring on back-to-back chances to grab a 2-0 lead.
- After Capp Reynolds ran down a loose ball, the Red and White advanced into the attacking end where Ramsey Huggins setup Hagen McTear for the goal.
- The Mustangs then responded with three straight to take a 5-1 lead with 5:16 lead.
- Dickinson got chances from Luke Whalen and McTear that were stopped by Merchant, but Ethan Gess and Whalen notched a goal apiece prior to the end of the period to get within 5-3.
- The Devils recorded the first two chances of the frame through Cullen Mulhern and Whalen, but neither tested Merchant.
- Unfortunately, for the Red and White the Mustangs tallied four of the next five shots with two of them squeezing past Rocco Bognet to make it 7-3 with 3:20 gone.
- Shots from Tommy Baldini, Ethan Ferrant and Gess were unable to test Merchant, but Evan Karetsos would eventually be able to connect with Gess for a marker.
- However, the visitors got goals from Darrell Curtis and Hunter Bryant to surround another Gess tally off a dish from Matt Thurston setting the margin at four (9-5) inside of five minutes left.
- Dickinson used a pair of Trucksess faceoff wins to setup strikes by Owen Porter and Whalen to get within 9-7. Stevenson would take advantage of a late man-up opportunity leading to a goal for Dillon Linhardt pushing it to 10-7 at halftime.
- The Mustangs came out of the break strong as goals for Andrew Searing and Linhardt inside of the first minute made it 12-7.
- Merchant continued to be the story in goal as saves against Preston Boyd, Matt Thurston and Gess, allowed Grant Zick to bump the margin to 13-7 with 7:45 to go.
- That seemed to snap the Mustangs back to attention offensively as they recorded the next seven shots, but it would be Dickinson who would strike on their final chance of the period with Landen Hyatt ripping a man-up shot past Merchant.
- For the second straight quarter it was Stevenson who struck early picking up two goals in just over a 30-second span to open up a 15-8 advantage.
- Dickinson took eight of the next nine shots and were not able to solve Merchant as he denied both Owen Binder and Whalen.
- After Zick added another to make it 16-8, Dickinson collected markers from Gess and Thurston to set the 16-10 final.
