OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The tenth-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team used a balanced attack and a stout defensive performance to secure their fifth straight win on Friday afternoon knocking off 14th-ranked Saint Lawrence University by a score of 19-6 on day one of the annual Callum Robinson Mustang Classic at Stevenson University.
First Quarter
- An early giveaway by the Saints gave Dickinson the opportunity to strike with Landen Hyatt finding Ramsey Huggins for the tally past Rafferty Callahan.
- Two minutes later Christian Swope knocked the ball away from Drew Knight resulting in Cullen Mulhern scoring unassisted, before a faceoff won by Ryan Backus allowed Drew Stark to make it 3-0 on a feed from Tommy Baldini.
- A save for Callahan against Mulhern sent the Saints back the other way with Nathan Coghlin beating Rocco Bognet.Â
- After a save at each end of the field Walker Fiore collected the ground ball and found Hyatt for his first of the day. Dickinson's defense would lead to one more late with Campbell Reid causing the turnover ending up with Mac Childs burying the rock for the 5-1 edge after one.
Second Quarter
- To begin the period Heath Mann took over between the pipes and was immediately tested by both Preston Boyd and Stark, but was up to the task on both.
- The Red and White did cash in though at the 4:18 mark when Bulger hooked up with Boyd (6-1).
- Ethan Ackerman forced yet another SLU turnover sending him the other way resulting in Childs posting his second of the contest. The Devils used the same approach two minutes later as Ethan Ferrant caused the turnover scooped the ground ball and got the rock to Huggins making it 8-1 with 4:13 left.
- Jensen Kohler pulled one back for the Saints, but off a Backus faceoff win Hyatt found himself along at the top of the crease (9-2).
Third Quarter
- Daniel Mahoney tried to capture the momentum for St. Lawrence by scoring only 29-seconds in. However, after Mann denied both Baldini and Boyd, Huggins delivered for DC bumping the lead to 10-3.
- Coghlin beat Bognet five minutes in, before back-to-back stops by the Devil netminder set the stage for strikes from Boyd and Hyatt making it 12-4 with 9:07 gone.
- Dickinson was not done though as they added two in the final 16-seconds courtesy of Huggins and Boyd moving the advantage to 14-4 with a period to play.
Fourth Quarter
- George Persinger became the third goalie of the game for the Saints and he would right away feel the fury of the Dickinson defense with Sam Bunten causing a giveaway resulting in Ferrant cashing in with the long-pole.
- Hayden Warren the defensive performance by separating Jamie Rosenzweig giving Stark the chance to ripple the twine making it 16-4 at the 2:52 mark.
- The two sides then traded two-goal runs with Henry Crean and Ted Wilson tallying for the Saints, while Luke Devlin and Owen Binder notched markers for DC (18-6).Â
- Bognet recorded one more stop on the day turning aside Cam Croasdaile, before Quinn Donovan found Taner Marusa to set the 19-6 final.
