OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The tenth-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team finished off a perfect weekend at the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic by posting an 8-5 win over Denison University on Saturday afternoon. The Red and White were led by a three-goal performance from
Preston Boyd and double-digit save output for
Rocco Bognet.
First Quarter
- Both teams tested the keepers early with Bognet notching two stops inside the first two minutes, while Andrew Albert had the answer for both Ramsey Huggins and Boyd.
- Dickinson continued to search out the first goal of the game with Ben Monroe, Charlie Baughan and Drew Stark combining for six shots resulting in three saves and one off the post.
- Denison finally cracked the board with 9:06 gone when Brady Monturio struck.
- However, the Red and White responded in a big way with Boyd recording a hat trick inside the final three minutes to make it 3-1 after one.
Second Quarter
- Albert was the story of the opening minute denying the duo of Cullen Mulhern and Boyd.
- That gave the Big Red the opportunity to draw even with Michael Cassidy tallying, before a faceoff won by Augie Oberting resulted in Zach Warren tying the score with four minutes gone.
- Sam Bunten jarred the ball free from Monturio allowing Landen Hyatt to scoop up the groundball and find Baughan for the finish giving DC the lead back at 4-3.
- The remainder of the frame was all about the keepers as they combined for six saves over the final seven and a half minutes.
Third Quarter
- Coming out of the break Denison tied the score right up as Jonah Frank solved Bognet only 33-seconds in.
- Two more saves from Bognet set the stage for the Devils to go on a two-goal run thanks to strikes from Stark and Monroe (6-4).
- The Dickinson defense continued to be stout as they forced the Big Red to take a shot clock violation resulting in Boyd finding Huggins to make it 7-4.
- Jack Moellering and Monroe each struck for their respective sides prior to the final horn leaving the Devils in front 8-5 through 45 minutes.
Fourth Quarter
- The final frame was all about the defenses as neither side recorded a goal.
- For Dickinson, Ethan Ferrant, Hayden Warren and Monroe combined to force four Big Red giveaways, while Bognet notched two stops for the Devils to secure the 8-5 victory.
