Devils Season Ends by Being Swept by Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Dickinson baseball team had their 2026 campaign end on Sunday afternoon in tough fashion as the host Haverford College posted a doubleheader sweep at Kannerstein Field. In game one the Devils bats just could not come to life as the Fords won 9-0, before claiming a 16-6 win in seven innings.

Game One
Final Score:
Fords 9, DEVILS 0
Team Records: Dickinson (20-16-1, 6-10-1 CC) | Haverford (13-22, 7-10 CC)
Pitching Decision: W – Sam Cohen (5-2) | L – Ben Myers (2-3)
Inside the Game
  • Haverford got going right away in the last of the first as five pitches into Ben Myers outing Mauro DeCillis homered to left-center. He then settled down to get the next three hitters to end the frame. An inning later it was the same story with Luke Treese opening things with a blast to left-center.
  • In the third, Dickinson tried to get back into the game with a pair of two-out singles from John Kumpa and Dylan Posencheg. However, Sam Cohen had Will Ferris watch strike three to retire the side.
  • The long balls continued to victimize the Red and White during the last of fifth as Ryan Field provided a leadoff home run, before a walk to Sammy Angel set the stage for a two-run shot from DeCillis making it 5-0.
  • Dickinson could just not string base runners together as a two-out Johnny Bruno double was left stranded in the sixth and a free pass to Josh Markley went no further than first during the seventh.
  • Haverford added one more in the last of the seventh, prior to notching back-to-back homers an inning later for the 9-0 advantage.
  • Bruno was hit by a pitch in the ninth and Kyle Bailey sent a single through the right side of the infield to give DC something to work with. Unfortunately, a fly out from Luke Gartland and strike out of Miguel Reich ended the game.

Inside the Game
  • This time it was Dickinson who started the game quick as Posencheg led off with a triple, before Markley deposited a single to right for a 1-0 lead. However, a double play and fly out stalled the rally. The Fords had an immediate response when two singles resulted in one coming home, followed by a two-run homer for Treese making it 3-1 after one.
  • The score stayed that way until the third when a free pass to Ferris led to an RBI two-bagger from Posencheg trimming it to 3-2. Nolan Ross then recorded a "three-up, three-down" home-half to keep DC within one.
  • Haverford kept on using the long ball to get their offense as with one on and one down in the fourth DeCillis recorded his third jack of the day (5-2). An inning later they continued with Will Schroen and Jackson Sgro each notching a two-run bomb to help extend the margin to 10-2 after five.
  • Dickinson found their way back onto the scoreboard in the sixth as singles for Posencheg and Bruno set the stage for Bailey to launch a three-run homer cutting the deficit to 10-5. However, the Fords answered back during their chance as five consecutive walks led to two crossing, before Miles Prusek collected a grand slam (16-5). Ethan Sodl recorded the final run of the season for the Red and White as he opened up the seventh with a home run, but a strikeout with one on closed out the game.
