Devils Toppled by Shorewomen in CC First Round Classic

CARLISLE, Pa. - The fourth seed Dickinson women's tennis team gave the fifth-seeded Washington College all they could handle on Tuesday afternoon in the First Round of the Centennial Conference Tournament at the Hays Tennis Courts. Unfortunately, for the Red and White they fell just short of the visiting Shorewomen dropping a 4-3 decision.

Doubles (Shorewomen 2-1 | Count one point in the team score)
The Devils began the match strong with a win at the second slot where Anabel Romero Gemmell and Merve Uyumazturk posted a 6-1 victory against Juanita Arbelaez-Jess Wilde. Washington got level in the first flight with Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola edging out Jenna Crain-Natasha Sharnoff (6-3), before earning the point on the three line as Gaby Coutts and Isabella Sorhegui did just enough to get by Alisa Steele-Loretta Szych (6-4).

Singles (Tied 3-3)
Szych brought the Red and White level with a victory on the six line over Wilde (6-1, 6-3). Namunyola and Sorhegui playing at two and four gave the Shorewomen a 3-1 by knocking off Steele (6-2, 7-6) and Uyumazturk (6-3, 7-6). Dickinson trimmed one off the deficit in the third flight where Kading and Sharnoff traded the first two sets, before Sharnoff won the third in a shutout (6-0). At five, Sofia Sperandei and Chloe Heller battled it out. Sperandei took the first 7-5, but Heller responded in grand style with a pair of 6-3 victories. On the top line, Arbelaez and Crain went the distance as Crain opened the match with a 6-4 win, before Arbelaez responded in the second 6-2. In the third set, the two went back-and-fourth, but it was Arbelaez who closed out the match with a 7-5 triumph.

Dickinson wraps up the season with a mark of 12-9 overall and 5-3 inside the Centennial Conference.
