Dickinson College softball team won its first two games in the
Centennial Conference playoffs to advance to the championship game
on Sunday. |
#3-seed Swarthmore will face host Ursinus in an elimination game
on Sunday morning at 10:00 am. The winner will move onto the
championship, and have to beat Dickinson twice. Game time is
scheduled for approximately 12:00.
The Red Devils survived a pitcher's duel in the opener, topping
Ursinus with an unearned run in the sixth inning.
Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark
Academy) singled and advanced to third when the ball
was misplayed in right field. JuniorJess Haklar
(Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) bunted with two
outs, and reached on a error to score Gerish with the lone run of
the game.
Allison Jordan (Medford,
N.J./Shawnee) tossed a one-hitter, recording five
strikeouts to earn the win.
Lauren Davis-Macedonia recorded 10 strikeouts in the loss for
Ursinus.
In game two, the Devils scored once in the fourth inning, and
that proved once again to be enough as they held off Swarthmore
1-0.
Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel,
N.J./Holmdel) and Alesha Sisco (Effort,
Pa./Blair Academy) hit back-to-back singles
before Kyrie Budnik (Northampton,
Pa./Northhampton) added a third single, scoring
Murtaugh from second base.
Liz Barry (Millis, Mass./Noble &
Greenough) held Swarthmore scoreless through three
and one-third innings before Jordan came on to earn the win,
recording four strikeouts in the final three and two-thirds.
The Red Devils advance to the championship game at 12:00 on
Sunday. They will await the winner of Swarthmore and Ursinus at
10:00 am.
