(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to a highly motivated Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays were on a mission, scoring in the second minute on the way to Head Coach Megan Fraser's 100th win in the Centennial Conference.
Meghan Kellet struck quickly, scoring just 1:37 into the contest with her fourth goal of the season to put Johns Hopkins on the board. She added another in the 11th minute to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead into the break after Alexa Lanteire tallied her first goal of the season with 3:25 remaining in the half.
Liane Tellier extended the margin to 4-0, scoring unassisted, 4:59 into the second half. The Devils got on the board in the 56th minute. Senior Katie Mersky (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) finished an assist from first-year Natalie Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic).
The Blue Jays tacked on a late goal as Storm Kodde scored off an assist from Annie Shepard with 2:34 remaining in the game.
Sophomore goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) made 11 saves for the Red Devils as JHU held a 24-12 advantage in shots. The Devils forced seven penalty corners while holding Hopkins to just six on the day.
Kim Stein and Elizabeth Peijnenburg combined for seven saves in the Hopkins' cage.
The Red Devils (4-10, 1-7) return home for another big test on Saturday, hosting 11th–ranked Ursinus College at 11:30 am.
