(Selinsgrove, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team suffered a pair of losses at Susquehanna on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders scored four runs in the third inning en route to an 8-0 win in the opener. They scored runs in four separate innings to post a 5-1 win in the nightcap, improving to 10-4 on the season.
Cara Swerdlow tossed a no-hitter in the opener for Susquehanna, recording seven strikeouts to improve to 5-1 on the season. First-year Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) allowed just two earned runs on a pair of hits while striking out seven in the opening 3.2 innings.
Shelly Landis led SU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a three-run triple, scoring twice as well.
The Red Devils tallied eight hits in the nightcap, led by a 2-for-3 performance from senior Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel). Murtaugh added a double and a walk as well in game two.
Junior Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark Academy) recorded two hits while Melissa Osborn (Stevensonville, Md./Kent Island) and Ari Coulter (Branford, Conn./Branford) each doubled. Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) chipped in with a pair of walks and the Devils' RBI.
Senior Allison Jordan (Medford,N.J./Shawnee) suffered the loss, despite recording 10 strikeouts in game two.
The Red Devils (5-9) are home on Saturday, hosting Ursinus College in their Centennial Conference opener at 1:00 pm.
