(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback to 11th-ranked and defending Centennial Conference champion, Johns Hopkins University on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Sarah Woodward (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester) earned the point for the Red Devils, capturing the fourth singles flight 6-2, 7-5. She partnered with junior Leigh Oczkowski (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) to put up a fight in doubles before falling 8-6.
First-year Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) battled in the third singles flight, dropping a three-set decision to Yoko Hirase. Hirase claimed the first set, 6-3 before Lavery evened the match, taking the second set 6-2. Hirase survived the tie-break, winning 10-4 to earn the point.
The Blue Jays remain unbeaten at 6-0 and 4-0 in the conference. The Red Devils slip to 3-5 and 1-2 on the season. Dickinson travels to McDaniel College on Tuesday for a 3:30 match with the Green Terror.
