(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team split a double-header at Gettysburg on Thursday, winning a nine-inning opener, 5-4, before suffering a 10-1 setback in game two.
Senior Allison Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tossed a complete game to earn the win, recording 12 strikeouts in the win. She held the Bullets to just one hit through the first five innings, improving to 5-6 on the year.
The Devils led 4-0 entering the fifth inning. Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) doubled and scored in an RBI single by Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) in the first inning.
Jessica Hakler (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) singled and came in as Murtaugh sent a homerun over the wall in right center to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Senior Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) walked and scored on an RBI single from Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark Academy) to stretch the lead to 4-0 in the fifth.
The Bullets rallied with two outs in the sixth to score three unearned runs. Gettysburg capitalized on a double and a Devil error to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Budnik and Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) recorded singles before Murtaugh and Sisco drew walks to score Budnik and put the Devils in front, 5-4.
The Devils held in the bottom of the seventh as Jordan K'd the lead-off hitter and closed the door for the win. Murtaugh finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Budnik added two hits and two runs while Sisco tallied a pair of RBIs.
The Bullets avenged the loss in game one, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings en route to a 10-1 win in the nightcap. Maggie MaGuire became Gettysburg's all-time leader in homeruns with a two-run shot in the third inning.
Murtaugh, who is already the career leader at Dickinson, gave the Devils their lone run in the nightcap with a homerun to over the center field fence in the top of the first.
Taylor Snyder earned the win for Gettysburg (14-12, 4-4), striking out three while allowing just three hits.
The Red Devils stand a 10-15 overall and 6-4 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Swarthmore College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
