(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team swept a twilight double-header from non-conference visitor Albright on Monday. The Red Devils used a four-run third inning to win the opener, 7-4. They had an even bigger offensive output in the nightcap, posting an 11-3 win in six innings.
Sophomore Bruke Mikesell (Columbia, Md./Howard) put the Devils in the board in the first inning. She doubled down the left field line and came in as senior Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) singled the other way, down the right field line.
Senior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) made it three straight hits for Dickinson with a single to left. Murtaugh and Sisco moved up on a passed ball and Murtaugh came in to score off the bat of Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark Academy) to give the Devils a 2-0 lead.
Murtaugh doubled in the third and stole third while Sisco drew a walk. Murtaugh came home on a double steal to trigger a four run inning. Melissa Osborn (Stevensonville, Md./Kent Island) singled to score Sisco and came around to score on three wild pitches.
Senior Ari Coulter (Branford, Conn./Branford) drew a walk and scored on a passed ball to give the Devils a 6-0 advantage into the top of the fourth.
Brittany Bartok reached on a fielder's choice and would later score the Lions' lone run on an illegal pitch.
Murtaugh came in for the third time in the game in the sixth. She drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on the second single of the game for Sisco. Walks from Gerish and Osborn scored Murtaugh for the final of 7-1.
Senior Liz Barry (Millis, Mass./Noble & Greenough) earned the win in the opener, scattering six hits. Classmate Allison Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) came on for the close, recording six strikeouts in just two innings.
Murtaugh finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Sisco went 2-for-2, scoring a run as well. Osborn tallied a pair of RBIs.
The Devils jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in game two. Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) led off the game with a double. Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) singled and they both came in a on double to right field by Sisco.
Sisco came in on a single by Osborn to put the Devils up, 3-0. Albright used a double and a single to push one across in the fourth inning. They tied the game in the fourth behind a two-RBI double from Hillary Rodriquez.
The Devils answered with a vengeance on the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs to take a 10-3 lead. Osborn doubled in two runs while four other Devils recorded RBIs in the inning.
Dickinson sent three players to the plate in the sixth to close out the game. Osborn drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second as Coulter laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt that snuck past the infield, turning into a bunt base-hit. Sophomore Denise Haines (Greenlane, Pa./St. Pius X) drove in the game-winner with an RBI single as Osborn came across to give the Devils the eight-run advantage.
Jordan went 3-for-3, scoring twice while Osborn was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice, a walk and three RBIs to go with a pair of runs scored.
Sisco drove in three runs and Gerish went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a runs scored. First-year Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded five strikeouts, scattering six hits to earn the win in the nightcap.
The Red Devils are home again tomorrow, hosting Franklin & Marshall in a key Centennial Conference double-header at 5:00 pm.
