Game 1 Boxscore

Game 2 Boxscore

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College softball closed out the regular season with a sweep of visiting Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday night. The Red Devils won the opener in 10 innings, 1-0, and claimed a 2-0 decision in the nightcap. The sweep gives the Red Devils the regular season, Centennial Conference title and the right to host the conference tournament this weekend.

The Red Devils managed eight hits, including two each from senior Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and sophomore Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee). Senior Allison Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) went the distance for the win, striking out 12 while allowing just four hits in the shutout.

The Devils capitalized on the international tie-breaker in the 10th inning. Senior Jess Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) started the inning on second base. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winner off the bat of Carly Jordan. Jordan sent a shot right back at the pitcher, deflecting out of the reach of the second baseman.

Murtaugh went 2-for-3, adding a double and was intentionally walked in the sixth inning.

Game two felt like a case of deja-vous as the teams battled scoreless through five innnings. Murtaugh tripled in the first inning, but was stranded on third. The Diplomats threatened in the fourth as Malorie Sassaman doubled to lead off the inning. She advanced to third, but was stranded there as well.

The Devils pushed across two in the sixth inning. Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) led-off the inning with a single. Rachel Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) pinch-ran and moved to second on a sacrifice by sister Carly.

The Diplomats intentionally walked Murtaugh, but in the process a wild pitch allowed Jordan to move to third. Murtaugh stole second on the first and third, and then Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) doubled to score both runs.

Jordan threw the first four innings of the nighcap. She allowed a pair of hits while striking out seven. Senior Liz Barry (Millis, Mass./Noble & Greenough) came in for the final three innings to earn the save.

Sisco's double was one of just three Devil hits in the nightcap. Budnik and Murtaugh added the others as Dickinson put the ball in play, only recording one strikeout.

The Red Devils improve to 18-15 overall and finish 12-4 in the Centennial Conference. They will host the conference tournament at Dickinson Park on Saturday and Sunday.
