(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team suffered a pair of losses in a double-header at Messiah College on Thursday, dropping game one, 8-0, and the nightcap 9-3.
Messiah scored twice in the third inning, using a sacrifice fly and a double. Back-to-back doubles and an RBI single led to a pair of runs and a 4-0 lead for the Falcons at the end of three innings. Messiah tacked on four in the sixth behind a three-run single from Sarah Seneca.
Messiah used five hits to score four runs in the second inning of game two. They tacked on three in the fourth, and added single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Junior Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) doubled to score Bruke Mikesell (Columbia, Md./Howard) and Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) in the top for the third.
First-year Jay Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) went 1-for-2 with a walk in game one while Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) added a double.
Jordan went 2-for-4 in game two to lead the Devils at the plate, scoring two of the Devils' three runs. Madison Gerish (Fairfield, N.J./Newark Academy) added an RBI double and drew a walk in the nightcap.
O'Neill went 2-for-3 while Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) went 1-for-1 with three walks.
The Red Devils slip to 4-12 on the season. They are scheduled to open Centennial Conference play on Saturday at Ursinus College. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
