(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting McDaniel in its 2012 Centennial Conference opener on Tuesday night. The Red Devils took an early, 1-0 lead in game one but McDaniel scored three in the fifth and tacked on another in the sixth for a 4-1 final.
The Green Terror jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the first inning of game two. They tallied lone runs in the second and third to complete the sweep with an 8-0 decision.
Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) reached on an error and came in to score on an RBI walk by Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) to put the Devils on the board in the second inning of game one.
McDaniel used five hits and a pair of sacrifice bunts to score three runs in the fifth inning. Tracy Davis doubled in the sixth and came around on a single by Lauren Fusco for the final of 4-1.
Caroline Brehm recorded nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits. Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) suffered the loss despite eight strikeouts in the opener. Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) went 2-for-3 in the opener.
A three-run double capped a six-run first inning for the Terror in the nightcap. Brehm was solid in game two as well, recording 11 strikeouts for a school, single-season record 133 for the season while holding the Devils to just four hits in the nightcap.
The Terror tacked on single runs in the second and third innings to secure the sweep with an 8-0 win.
The Red Devils slip to 4-14 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Haverford College for a 1:00 start on Saturday.
