(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College women's tennis team handed Elizabethtown College just its second loss of the season, surviving a 5-4 thriller on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Devils improved to 9-2 on the season, while the Blue Jays fell to 7-2 overall. The Blue Jays led, 2-1, after doubles. Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) earned the point for the Devils, winning the first flight, 8-2.
Rodgers clinched the match, capturing the top singles flight, 6-4, 6-4. The Devils won four of six singles matches to overtake Elizabethtown for the win. Lavery turned in a solid win in the second flight, 6-1, 6-2.
Brittany Zoll (Malvern, Pa./Shipley) posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the fourth flight and sophomore Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) earned the point in the sixth flight with a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
The Red Devils return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, hosting Bryn Mawr College at 1:00 pm.
