(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team suffered a pair of losses to Alvernia University on Thursday night. The Crusaders continued to roll, improving to 24-2 on the season, posting wins of 6-0 and 7-0.
The Crusaders scored six unearned runs in the opener. Shannon Grim cleared the bases with a three-run triple to put Alvernia on the board in the third inning. Alvernia capitalized on Red Devil errors in the fifth and sixth to add two more runs for the final of 6-0.
Junior Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) went 2-for-3 at the plate while Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded seven strikeouts and held the Crusaders to just five hits in the opener.
Deanna Dungee recorded just four strikeouts but held the Devils to five hits as well. Grimm went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in game one.
Game two saw a similar start as Alvernia put a pair of unearned runs on the board in the first inning. Grimm singled and scored on a sacrifice to add a run in the third. Danielle Kitchen hit a homerun in the fifth, stretching the lead to 4-0.
Jacklyn Torres doubled in the sixth and would come in to score on another Red Devil miscue. The Crusaders tacked on another pair on the seventh for the final of 7-0.
Brittanie Wolfe improved to 13-0 on the year, holding the Devils to four hits in the nightcap. First-year Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) spoiled the no-hitter early, starting off the first-inning with a lead-off single.
The Red Devils slip to 7-21 on the season. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Swarthmore College for a 1:00 pm start.
