(Swarthmore, Pa.) - The Dickinson College women's tennis team handed host Swarthmore its first Centennial Conference loss of the season, posting a 7-2 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead after doubles, capturing the first and second flights, 8-3 and 8-4.
Junior Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and sophomore Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) claimed first doubles and earned points in the top two singles flights.
Rodgers posted a 7-5, 6-1 decision in the top spot while Lavery won the second flight, 6-2, 6-4.
Senior Brittany Zoll (Malvern, Pa./Shipley) survived a three-set match to claim the third flight, (6-4, 4-6, 7-6), and teamed with classmate Leigh Oczkowski (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) for an 8-4 win in doubles.
Oczkowski also won in singles, claiming the fifth flight, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) added a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win in singles.
The Red Devils improve to 13-3 overall and raise their conference record to 6-2 on the year. Swarthmore falls to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Red Devils return home to face Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
