(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team dropped both ends of a Centennial Conference double-header at Ursinus on Friday afternoon. The host Bears scored twice in the fourth and sixth innings of game one to post a 4-0 win. They erupted for five runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap to help secure a 10-3 decision.
The Bears recorded five hits in the bottom of the fourth to score a pair of runs in the opener. Cassie Brown doubled and scored in the fourth, and singled to start the sixth inning. She came around to score on a two-run homer by Monica Bonitatis to stretch the lead to 4-0.
That would hold for the final as Jennilyn Weber recorded seven strikeouts to earn the win for Ursinus. Sophomore Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) suffered the loss, recording five strikeouts in the opener.
First-year Katie Swade (New Freedom Pa./Susquehannock) singled and came in to score on a double by classmate Erin Owens (Fayetteville, Ga./Woodward Academy) in the top of the first to start game two.
The Bears pushed across two runs in the first as Kelly Schymanski drove in a run with a single. Ursinus capitalized in the second, scoring a pair of unearned runs to lead, 4-1. They added another unearned run in the third to lead 5-1.
First-year Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) hit a two-run homer to score Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) in the top of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
Amy Gentile led-off the fourth for Ursinus with her first homerun of the season. Brown added two-run double as the Bears scored five to stretch the lead to the final, 10-3.
Osborn went 2-for-2 in the nightcap while Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) went 2-for-4 on the night. Katri Thiele (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) tallied four strikeouts in three innings of work.
The Bears improved to 18-13 overall and 7-5 in Centennial Conference play. The Devils slip to 10-24 and 6-8. Dickinson is scheduled to travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a 1:00 double-header.
