(York, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's tennis team held off Muhlenberg in its Centennial Conference finale, 5-4, at the Wisehaven Tennis Center, on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils improved to 15-3 overall and finish 8-2 in conference play. The Red Devils earn the number-two seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs, and will host #3-seed Swarthmore College, next Saturday.
Muhlenberg took a 2-1 lead after doubles, claiming the second and third flights. Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) earned the Devils' point, winning the first flight, 8-2. The Mules battled to wins at two and three, 8-4 and 8-6.
Rodgers and Lavery posted straight-set wins in the first and second singles flights.
Seniors Nora Hajnoczky (Wallingford, Conn./Strath Haven) and Leigh Oczkowski (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) secured the win for the Devils, claiming the fourth and fifth flights by identical scores, 6-1, 6-3.
Muhlenberg slips to 6-8 and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils earn their highest seed in program history in the Centennial playoffs. The time for Saturday's semifinal match with Swarthmore will be announced on Monday.
