(Reading, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team split a double-header at Albright to close out the 2012 season on Sunday. The Red Devils started strong, winning the opener, 11-0, in five innings. The Lions answered, taking the nightcap, 4-0.
The Red Devils scored three runs in the first inning. Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) drove in two runs with a double. She went 3-for-5 in game one with five RBIs.
The Devils added a run in the second as Corinne Ahern (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) singled and came in to score on an RBI from Bruke Mikesell (Columbia, Md./Howard).
Homa doubled to score two more runs as the Devils pushed across four in the fourth to stretch the lead to 8-0. They capitalized on three Albright errors in the fifth, adding three hits and scoring three more runs for the final of 11-0.
Aherne went 2-for-3 in the opener while Mikesell and Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) each went 2-for-3, scoring three runs. Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) added two hits while Jay Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) tallied a pair of RBIs and Rachel Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) scored twice in game one.
Homa recorded five strikeouts in a two-hit shutout effort to win the opener.
The Lions capitalized on a pair of Red Devil errors to score four runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two. That proved to be all the scoring as they held on for the win to earn the split.
Swade and Abell recorded the only two hits for the Devils in the nightcap as Stephanie Romano tossed a two-hit shutout, recording six strikeouts.
Katri Thiele (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) allowed just five hits in five innings, suffering the loss in game two.
The Red Devils finish the season 12-26 overall.
