(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's tennis team held off visiting Gettysburg, 5-4, to improve to 11-2 on the season. The Red Devils improved to 2-2 in the Centennial Conference while handing the Bullets their first conference loss of the year.
The Bullets led, 2-1, after doubles. Sophomore Madeline Altholtz (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and first-year Ilana Unger (Boulder, Colo./Alexander Dawson) earned the point for the Devils with a 9-8 decision in the third doubles flight, winning the tie-breaker, 7-4.
Altholtz added a key win in singles, posting a 6-2, 6-1 decision for the Devils' fourth point. Junior Alysia Rodgers (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) closed out the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory in the top singles flight.
Shannon Lavery (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington) claimed the second singles flight, (6-2, 6-0), and senior Leigh Oczkowski (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) added a 6-3, 6-3 win in singles as well.
The Bullets fall to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 11-2 on the year. Dickinson travels to Haverford College on Saturday for a 12:00 pm match.
