Red Devils Rally Past Green Terror, Improve to 4-0 in CC

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team rallied from a 1-0, halftime deficit, to overtake visiting McDaniel College, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils improved to 7-2 overall and remained unbeaten in the Centennial Conference with a 4-0 mark.

The Red Devils struggled to find a sense of rhythm in the first half. The Green Terror capitalized on an early opportunity as Julie Little converted a rebound off a shot by Bayley Vohs, 13 minutes into the game.

Dickinson started to find its way, slowly starting to dominate the flow of play. The score remained, 1-0, as the teams headed into halftime. After the break, the Red Devils came out focused. They tallied three goals in a span of just five minutes to take control of the contest, 3-1.

First-year Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) put the Devils on the board first, scoring off a penalty corner in the 42nd minute. Natalie Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) inserted the corner and Kendal Packo (Timonium, Md./Notre Dame Prep) found Perlmutter on the back post to pull the Devils even.

Just under four minutes later, sophomore Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) put Dickinson in front, converting a penalty stroke with 25 minutes remaining in the game.

The Devils weren't done yet, adding an insurance goal, one minute twenty-one seconds later. Perlmutter finished another assist from Packo to give Dickinson some much needed breathing room.

The Devils would hold on over the final 24 minutes, trying to maintain possession down the stretch. McDaniel continued to battle, finding the cage with just 1:30 remaining in regulation. Little tallied an assist this time, finding Danielle DeColli, cutting the lead to just a goal.

Dickinson gained possession and were able to hold the ball until the final seconds, securing its seventh win of the season. The Red Devils remain unbeaten in the Centennial Conference as well, improving to 4-0 on the year.

Perlmutter led the attack with a pair of goals on the afternoon while Packo dished out assists on both tallies. Karwel came up as equally big on the defensive end of the field, making a key defensive save in the first half.

Senior goaltender Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) turned in another solid performance, making four saves on the afternoon. Victoria Alexander made seven saves for McDaniel while Natalie Price came up with a nice defensive save. The Green Terror slips to 4-5 overall, and 1-3 in the conference.

The Red Devils (7-2, 4-0 CC) travel to Bryn Mawr College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
