Green Knights Take Two From Devils on Sunday

(Babson Park, Fla.) –The Dickinson baseball team dropped a pair of games to St. Norbert College on Sunday afternoon. The Devils suffered a 7-0 setback in the opener and dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, in the nightcap.

 

The Green Knights struck early in the opener, scoring three unearned runs on the first inning. Nick Pierre pushed across two runs with a triple and scored off an RBI single from Spencer Larson. Pierre would double in two more runs in the seventh to lead the way for St. Norbert.

 

Junior Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) went 2-for-2 and drew a walk to lead the Devils at the plate. Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) went 2-for-4 on the day.

 

Kevin Nutley scattered five hits and recorded six strikeouts to earn the win on the mound. Senior Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./St. Albans/Mercersburg Academy) recorded six strikeouts and allowed just three earned runs in a complete game effort for the Devils.

 

Junior Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) put Dickinson on the board in game-two. He led-off the fourth inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley).

 

The Green Knights answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. Larsen singled, stole second and scored off the bat of Bryan Thiessenhusen. The Devils kept St. Norbert in check until the bottom of the seventh.

 

Troy Rottier started the inning with a double, forcing the Devils into an intentional walk. Following a wild pitch and another intentional walk, Peirre singled to score Rottier for the win.

 

Sanders went 2-for-3 in game two, scoring the Devils' lone run. Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) earned the start on the mound, recording five strikeouts in four innings of work. Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) booked two strikeouts in an inning of relief and Garrett Kurtz (Ellicott City, Md.Centennial) suffered the loss with a tough outing in the seventh.

 

The Red Devils slip to 4-5 overall. They return to action on Monday evening, facing Suffolk University at 6:00 pm.
