(Tucson, Ariz.) – The Dickinson softball team picked-up a pair of wins in Arizona on Monday, posting an 8-0 shutout over Chatham University and a 5-1 decision against Marian.
The Red Devils scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to close out Chatham, 8-0, in five innings. Dickinson put two runs on the board in the second on a two-RBI single by Rachel Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).
Dickinson stretched the lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the third. Casey Ditzler (Cleona, Pa./Annville-Cleona) was hit by a pitch and Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) doubled her in to score. Jordan later came in on a sacrifice fly from Nicole Piet (Robbinsville, Pa./Robbinsville).
The Devils scored four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Stacie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) started things off with a single. She moved to third on a passed ball and a stolen base. Becca Garlinger (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) singled to score Maring, and came in on another RBI from Carly Jordan.
Grace Edelson (Basking Ridge, N.J./Villa Walsh) doubled and moved to third on a throw to the plate that was not in time to get Jordan. Edleson closed out the scoring, coming in off the bat of senior Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island).
Cassie Blyler (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) scattered two hits to earn the shutout win.
The Devils had another big inning in game two, scoring four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 5-1 decision over Marian University. Junior Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded a remarkable 17 strikeouts, allowing just three hits.
Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) went 2-for-2 in the nightcap, scoring twice and driving in another. She singled and scored off the bat of Ditzler in the third inning.
Four base-hits led to a four-run fifth. Swade added an RBI single, as did with Carly Jordan and senior Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St.Pius X). Ditzler singled again and came in to score on Jordan's single.
Sophomore Megan O'Neill (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) added a hit and in the fifth, going 2-for-3 on the day.
The Red Devils improve to 3-3 on the season. The Red Devils are scheduled to face Alfred University and Texas Lutheran on Tuesday.
